Summer Homework

English College and Career Ready: Please read a book of your choice (at least 200 pages) at least the 3-5th grade reading level (or higher). After completing the book, please provide a 3 paragraph summary and visual representation (draw a picture) of the book you read. Have it ready to turn in on the first day of classes. (Or, if you get done early, please feel free to email it to me!)

English 1: Please read a book of your choice (250 pages or more) at a 7th grade level or higher. After completing the book, please provide a 3-5 paragraph essay about how your main character has developed over the course of the book. Please include quotes from the book (with page numbers) and explain how those quotes prove that the character is developing. This is due the first day of school. If you get done early, please feel free to email it to me!

English 2: Please read a book of your choice from an author that is not an American at the 8th grade level or higher. After completing the book, please write a 3-5 paragraph essay discussing the treatment of the main character in the novel you chose. Was the character treated with respect and dignity? Was the culture in the book one that respects men and women as equals? Explain. Please include quotes (at least 2-3 quotes with page numbers) in your paper to support your thoughts. This is due the first day of school. If you get done early, please feel free to email it to me!

English 3: Please read a book of your choice from AN AMERICAN author at a 9th grade reading level or higher. After completing the book, please write a 3-5 paragraph essay discussing the conflict in your novel. Discuss how the main character handles conflict, how the conflict is identified, how the conflict drives the plot and how it is all resolved in the end. (If you choose a book that lacks conflict… choose again!) Please use specific examples (quotes) (more than one!!! At least two or three!) from your novel! This is due the first day of school. If you get done early, please feel free to email it to me!
